First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal informed International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi about Russia’s preparations for another large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, including possible strikes on facilities and networks supporting nuclear power plants.

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen.

During the meeting, Denys Shmyhal briefed the European Commissioner on the current situation in Ukraine’s energy sector.

“Russia continues to deliberately shell energy infrastructure on a daily basis, particularly during periods of severe frost. Ukraine is doing everything possible to restore electricity and heat to people’s homes as quickly as possible,” the Minister of Energy emphasized.

- The situation in Ukraine’s energy system remains challenging. Ongoing Russian attacks on energy facilities and severe weather conditions have necessitated the application of restrictions across the entire country.

- Last night, the enemy attacked energy infrastructure in several regions. As of the morning, power outages affected consumers in Sumy, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions. Emergency restoration works are ongoing wherever security conditions allow.

At a meeting with the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal outlined urgent priorities to stabilize the national power system.

“The expansion of technical capacity for electricity imports into Ukraine is critical. We expect swift progress on the development of interconnectors at the EU borders,” the Minister emphasized.

The coordinated work of all emergency services, together with the swift restoration of damaged infrastructure, is critical to stabilizing the situation in Kyiv and the surrounding region as quickly as possible. This was stated by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a regular meeting of the Headquarters for the Elimination of the Consequences of Emergencies in Kyiv and the region.

A regular meeting of the Headquarters for Emergency Response in Kyiv and the Kyiv region was held, co-chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksiy Kuleba. During the meeting, participants reviewed the results achieved to date and agreed on further steps to strengthen the resilience of the energy system.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Energy of Lithuania, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.

During the night, the enemy once again struck the country’s energy infrastructure, resulting in power outages in Odesa and Kyiv regions. Energy workers, despite severe weather conditions, are working tirelessly to restore electricity to all consumers as quickly as possible.

In Odesa region, restoration works continue following the attack on energy infrastructure. Network restrictions remain in effect.

The United Kingdom is contributing an additional £20 million (€23 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, increasing its total support to £164 million (approximately €190 million).

During Question Time to the Government, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal briefed Members of Parliament on urgent measures being taken to address the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power grid.

According to him, the Government has allocated more than UAH 50 billion to strengthen the protection of energy infrastructure.
