Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Anatoliy Kutsevol held a meeting with Naomichi Murooka, Deputy Director – Director of Urban and Regional Development at JICA Headquarters Infrastructure Management Department, and Osamu Hattori, Chief Representative of the JICA Office in Ukraine. They discussed Ukraine’s urgent energy sector needs and future cooperation directions.
Anatoliy Kutsevol expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan and JICA for substantial technical assistance: “This support is critically important during the winter, amid ongoing large-scale Russian attacks on energy infrastructure,” emphasized the Deputy Minister.
He noted that JICA-provided equipment has already been received in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odesa regions, with planned shipments for Sumy region and other areas.
“This significantly strengthens the energy resilience of Ukrainian cities and communities during the emergency situation. For example, the generators delivered to Kyiv will provide heat to around 300 residential buildings, as well as hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and other essential social infrastructure. We also appreciate the funds allocated for special equipment for Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia, enabling regional distribution system operators to respond more rapidly to emergencies, conduct repairs, and restore damaged infrastructure more effectively,” said Anatoliy Kutsevol.
During the meeting, participants agreed to review and update the list of urgent energy sector needs in Ukraine that could be addressed through international technical assistance projects financed by the Government of Japan via JICA.
