Changing your electricity supplier is free of charge. Consumers do not need to obtain consent from their current supplier. The current electricity supplier must continue providing electricity until the end of the existing contract. The change of supplier is completed within 21 days.
Steps for Consumers to Change Their Electricity Supplier:
1. Choose a new supplier offering the most suitable price and supply conditions.
2. Submit a joining application to the new supplier under the terms of the chosen commercial offer.
3. Provide the new supplier with the required documents, including personal data and documents regarding the electricity supply object.
4. Receive confirmation from the new supplier to start the supplier change procedure and to sign the electricity supply contract (or a justified refusal with recommendations). Upon request, the new supplier must inform the consumer about each stage of the supplier change procedure.
5. Receive a final electricity bill from the previous supplier, based on forecasted commercial metering data (no later than 5 calendar days before the contract expiration).
6. Allow the commercial metering service provider access to take actual meter readings.
7. Settle all payments with the previous supplier within 5 days from receiving the final bill.
Legal Framework
The procedure for changing an electricity supplier is regulated by Section VI of the Retail Electricity Market Rules (NKREKP Resolution No. 312, March 14, 2018). The full text of the rules can be found - https://bit.ly/3FNC9gp.
