How to Switch an Electricity Supplier

Changing your electricity supplier is free of charge. The consumer does not need to obtain consent from the current supplier. The current supplier is obligated to continue supplying electricity until the end of the existing contract. The supplier switching process is completed within 21 calendar days.

Steps to switch an electricity supplier:

1. Have a valid contract for electricity distribution (transmission) services.

2. Submit a supply contract accession application to the new electricity supplier based on the chosen commercial offer, along with the required documents (the list is available on the chosen supplier’s website).

3. Receive confirmation from the new supplier regarding the start of the switching process and the conclusion of the electricity supply contract (or a reasoned refusal with recommendations). At the customer’s request, the new supplier must provide updates on the progress of the switching procedure.

4. Arrange for the actual meter readings to be taken in the presence of the system operator.

5. Settle all outstanding payments with the previous supplier for the actual volume of electricity consumed.

Reasons for refusal to change electricity supplier:

  • Lack of technical feasibility (mismatch of commercial metering devices, operating modes, reliability category, or electricity consumption volumes with the selected supplier’s commercial offer);
  • Absence of a valid contract for distribution (transmission) services with the respective system operator;
  • Termination of power supply to the consumer’s facility at the request of the current electricity supplier.
