The mission of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy up to 2050 is to create conditions for the sustainable development of the national economy by ensuring access to reliable, resilient, and modern energy sources.
By 2050, the energy sector is intended to be as close as possible to climate neutrality. This will mean the availability of clean energy, overcoming energy poverty, development of an innovative and decentralized energy system, the full operation of national energy markets, and their integration into international markets.
The key principles of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy include economic viability, environmental friendliness, accessibility, social equity, and market orientation.
The Energy Strategy is based on target indicators for economic development according to the National Economic Strategy up to 2030, as well as on international commitments made by Ukraine—primarily within the framework of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and the Paris Climate Agreement.
The goals of Ukraine’s Energy Strategy 2050 are:
- Achieving the highest possible level of climate neutrality,
- Maximally reducing coal use in the energy sector,
- Renewing and modernizing energy infrastructure,
- Increasing resource efficiency in the energy sector,
- Comprehensive integration with European Union markets and effective operation of internal markets,
- Ensuring that the energy sector is supplied with domestic resources based on economic feasibility,
- Developing alternative energy sources, new products, and innovative solutions in the energy sector.
