On the night of August 6, 2025, russia carried out a deliberate attack on a gas infrastructure facility — the compressor station of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine in Odesa region, near the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

This compressor station was involved in the route connecting Greek LNG terminals with Ukrainian gas storage facilities via the Trans-Balkan pipeline, through which LNG from the United States and test volumes of Azerbaijani gas had already been supplied.

Deepening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States, strengthening the physical protection of energy facilities — particularly substations — and the effective use of international aid for the restoration of damaged infrastructure were the key topics of the meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Svitlana Grynchuk, and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine, Julie S. Davis.

Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Ukraine, Mustafa Levent Bilgen. The parties discussed the expansion of cooperation in the energy sector and the protection of energy infrastructure.

The energy sector is the only one for which the deadlines for implementing the Action Plan on the European Commission’s recommendations have been shortened.

In particular, by the third quarter of 2025, Ukraine is expected to adopt legislation on the transposition of the Electricity Integration Package (originally planned for the first quarter of 2026). In the fourth quarter of 2025, legislation aimed at encouraging investment in renewable energy sources will come into force — initially scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

Artem Nekrasov has been appointed First Deputy Minister. Previously, Artem served as Acting Director of the State Enterprise “Guaranteed Buyer.” He has extensive experience in the energy sector, having worked at enterprises involved in designing, manufacturing, and implementing high-maneuverability gas-fired electricity generation, as well as at electricity distribution and supply companies.

A working meeting was held between representatives of Ukraine and the United States on protecting critical energy infrastructure. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Oleksandr Vyazovchenko, Director of the Department of State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine Valerii Novak, representatives of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development, as well as experts from the Ukraine Working Group of the U.S.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero of the United Kingdom, Ed Miliband. The parties discussed the current state of Ukraine’s energy sector and prospects for bilateral partnership. In particular, the conversation focused on strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure, implementing innovative projects, and preparing for the heating season.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe, Robert Saum. The parties discussed key areas of recovery and development of Ukraine's energy sector.

Within the framework of the "Ray of Hope" initiative, a solar power plant with an autonomous power supply system was installed at a medical facility in Khmelnytskyi region. This system ensures uninterrupted power supply to critically important systems even in case of a blackout. The equipment was provided by the government of Italy and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

Ukraine has launched the first pilot delivery of natural gas from Azerbaijan using the Trans-Balkan corridor. The supply route runs from Bulgaria through Romania to the Ukrainian border.

This marks the result of consistent efforts and negotiations coordinated by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine at various levels, particularly following the Ukrainian Energy Minister’s visit to Baku in July as part of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
