During his visit to the United States, Denys Shmyhal delivered a lecture to students at Johns Hopkins University, where he spoke about the transformation of Ukraine’s approach to energy security amid the full-scale war.
He emphasized that the scale of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure is unprecedented for modern energy systems and has forced Ukraine to rethink the fundamental principles of energy sector operation. He shared his vision of a new energy architecture and noted that Ukraine’s experience may be valuable for international partners.
“We truly understood the value of electricity only when we had to fight for it every day. We are learning to build a system that cannot be switched off with a single button — a system that recovers faster than the enemy can strike again, and that becomes stronger after every restoration,” Denys Shmyhal noted.
He also thanked the students for their interest in Ukraine and for the meaningful dialogue, and expressed gratitude to the United States and the American people for their continued support and solidarity with Ukraine.
