First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, during a working visit to the United States, held a series of meetings with members of Congress and Senators from both the Republican and Democratic parties.
The discussions focused on continued political support for Ukraine, increasing pressure on the Russian aggressor, and deepening Ukraine–U.S. cooperation in the energy sector.
Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to Senator Lisa Murkowski, a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, for her personal contribution to supporting Ukraine. He emphasized that the past winter was extremely challenging for Ukraine due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. He briefed the Senator on Ukraine’s needs in equipment and reconstruction priorities, and underscored that Ukraine counts on partners’ support, including the supply of long-range weapons and air defense systems.
In a conversation with Gary Palmer, a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Minister thanked him for consistent support of restrictions against the Russian energy sector. The parties discussed Ukraine’s needs and strengthening business-level cooperation, including investments in energy projects in Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal also met with the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus: Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Mike Quigley. He thanked them for their continued support of Ukraine, including the statement of March 13, 2026, regarding the inadmissibility of any temporary easing of sanctions against Russia.
“Maintaining pressure on Russia and depriving it of resources for continuing the war remains critically important. We are grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
