First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal took part in intergovernmental Ukrainian-Bulgarian consultations and held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Traycho Traykov.
The parties discussed further deepening cooperation in the energy sector.
Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to Bulgaria for preparing a humanitarian assistance package of energy equipment to support the repair of Ukrainian power facilities, noting that this contribution is important for preparations for the upcoming heating season.
The participants also highlighted progress in the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor. Its expansion through Bulgaria’s territory will provide Ukraine with access to additional volumes of gas from the Mediterranean region, as well as new opportunities for cooperation with European partners and for utilizing Ukraine’s underground gas storage facilities.
The Ukrainian side also thanked Bulgaria for its support in restoring gas supplies via the Trans-Balkan route in reverse mode.
“This constitutes concrete decisions that strengthen our energy resilience,” the Minister emphasized.
Promising areas of cooperation include engagement with Naftogaz in oil refining at a Bulgarian refinery, as well as the exchange of expertise in the field of nuclear energy.
Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine already has successful experience cooperating with Westinghouse Electric Company in phasing out Russian nuclear fuel and stands ready to share this experience with partners.
