Government Amends Procedure for Electricity Sales Auctions: Ukrenergo Granted Access to Special Auctions to Cover Technological Losses

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved amendments to the Procedure for conducting electronic auctions for the sale of electricity under bilateral contracts.

The adopted decision grants the transmission system operator (NPC Ukrenergo) the right to participate in special auction sessions for the sale of bundled lots in order to purchase electricity to cover technological electricity losses during the period of martial law. This will enable the operator to procure electricity through special auctions at more predictable and often lower prices.

The participants reviewed the condition of Ukraine’s energy system amid ongoing large-scale Russian attacks, the urgent needs of energy companies, and mechanisms for ensuring the rapid restoration of damaged infrastructure. Deputy Minister Andarak briefed partners on the sector’s current priority needs.

Germany Allocates an Additional EUR 100 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWK) will provide an additional EUR 100 million through the German development bank KfW to support the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following massive Russian attacks. The funds will be transferred to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

With this decision, Germany’s total contribution to the Fund will reach EUR 550 million by the end of 2025, making it the Fund’s largest donor.

Coordination of Further Steps for EU Accession: Meeting of the Energy Cluster of the Ukraine-EU Association Committe

Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Olha Yukhymchuk participated in the 11th meeting of Cluster 3 of the Subcommittee on Economic and Other Sectoral Cooperation of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee.

The meeting focused on the harmonisation of Ukraine’s energy legislation with the EU acquis, including issues related to security of supply, internal market reforms, renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear safety, and governance.

Artem Nekrasov in Zaporizhzhia: Reliable Protection of Energy Infrastructure Must Be Ensured

Acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine Artem Nekrasov paid a working visit to the Zaporizhzhia region.

Together with the leadership of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration and representatives of regional energy companies, he reviewed the condition of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution facilities, as well as the progress of restoration efforts, which continue despite ongoing enemy shelling.

The focus was also on the need for equipment to carry out emergency repair work and modernize enterprises.
 

Ukraine Working to Stabilize Power Grid After Massive Russian Attacks - Mykola Kolisnyk

The situation in Ukraine’s united energy system remains challenging due to ongoing Russian shelling, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk reported.

According to the Deputy Minister, all nine nuclear power units located in territory controlled by Ukraine are currently operating. To balance the power system and meet demand, Ukraine is also using electricity imports and, when required, emergency assistance from partner countries.

Two Miners Killed in Enemy Attack in Dnipropetrovsk Region

On the night of December 2–3, the enemy carried out drone strikes on the private sector of the city of Ternivka, Dnipropetrovsk region. After the first explosion, the men rushed to help the victims, but during a subsequent strike they received fatal injuries.

Among the deceased is 43-year-old Vitaliy Korotich, a miner at the longwall of Ternivske Mine Administration, who had 23 years of experience. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
