There are two main reasons: an imbalance in the power grid caused by damage to energy infrastructure and insufficient electricity generation.
Frequent missile and drone attacks by Russian forces in various regions of Ukraine continue to cause new damage to the power network. As a result, energy workers are forced to disconnect certain lines in order to carry out emergency repair and restoration work.
There are days when several incidents occur simultaneously, which can lead to longer power outages than usual. These are necessary and unavoidable measures.
In addition, Ukraine is currently operating under an electricity-saving regime. During peak load hours — from 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. — it is strongly advised to avoid using high-consumption electrical appliances and to use electricity responsibly throughout the day.
The restrictions apply to heaters, water boilers, electric stoves, washing machines, ovens, air conditioners, microwaves, electric kettles, and other energy-intensive devices.
