On the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 (URC2026) in Gdańsk, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine — Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of Latvia Andris Kulbergs. The parties discussed the transfer to Ukraine of equipment from decommissioned Latvian energy facilities.

“We highly value our cooperation on Riga CHP-2. Together with our German partners, we have already secured the resources needed for dismantling the plant. This equipment will support the restoration of energy infrastructure in Kharkiv and Kyiv. We are also interested in engaging Latvian companies in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s electricity networks,” Denys Shmyhal said.

According to the Minister, another important area of bilateral cooperation is the development of supply routes and the use of infrastructure in the Baltic region. Ukraine is ready to offer its underground gas storage facilities as part of this cooperation.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Latvia for its unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and its continued support for the Ukrainian energy sector.
