U.S. Sanctions on Russia’s Energy Sector a Step to Pressure the Kremlin into Negotiations

23 October 2025, 12:15

Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk stated this during the United News telethon.

According to her, the sanctions imposed by the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump on Russia’s energy sector represent the first significant step to compel the Russian Federation to come to the negotiating table. The measures targeted the two largest oil companies that sustain the Russian economy.

Earlier, Svitlana Grynchuk held a substantive discussion with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. The parties discussed the recent massive Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system, Ukraine’s urgent need for additional equipment, and gas imports. Secretary Wright reaffirmed that the United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine and ensuring a stable heating season.

“We are in constant contact with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright regarding potential U.S. assistance. Secretary Wright is deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine and closely monitors our preparation for and progress through the autumn-winter period,” the Minister emphasized.
