The United Kingdom is contributing an additional £20 million (€23 million) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, increasing its total support to £164 million (approximately €190 million).
“I welcome the United Kingdom’s decision to provide an additional £20 million for the restoration and protection of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. I am grateful to Ed Miliband and the UK Ministry of Energy Security for their leadership and strong support. This assistance represents a practical step in implementing the Centennial Partnership Agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, strengthening our shared energy security and resilience,” emphasized First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
Amid the state of emergency in Ukraine’s energy sector caused by Russian attacks, the Ukraine Energy Support Fund will support a balanced package of priority measures, including emergency grid repairs to maintain heat and electricity for millions of Ukrainians and protection of critical energy infrastructure. The Energy Community Secretariat, which manages the Fund, will work closely with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine to ensure that funds are directed to the most urgent needs on the ground.
“The UK’s new contribution is fundamental to the Fund’s ability to provide rapid assistance during the current energy crisis. It also sends a strong signal of sustained international commitment needed to support Ukraine’s energy resilience, as Russian aggression enters its fourth year. We are proud to stand together with Ukraine and the United Kingdom,” said Arthur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.
Since its establishment in April 2022, 36 international partners have contributed more than €1.6 billion to the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector.
The funds are used to purchase critically needed equipment and materials for emergency repairs, replace damaged equipment, strengthen passive protection, and implement solutions that enhance decentralization and resilience in Ukraine’s energy system.
