The Government of the United Kingdom has announced financial support amounting to £210 million, equivalent to more than €242 million, through UK Export Finance (UKEF) to support the stable operation of Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector over the next two years. The agreement was announced by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer as part of arrangements reached with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal stated that the financing will be used to secure supplies of enriched uranium from Urenco for Ukraine’s national nuclear power generating company, JSC “NNEGC Energoatom”.
“Nuclear generation accounts for more than half of Ukraine’s electricity production. Therefore, this support is critically important for maintaining the resilience of our power system amid ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. I am grateful to the Government of the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, UK Export Finance, Urenco, and all our British partners for their unwavering support,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
