Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Auke Lootsma, Deputy Resident Representative Christophoros Politis, and Energy and Environment Team Lead Roman Shakhmatenko to discuss the current needs of Ukraine’s energy sector.
“Our priorities remain increasing the volume of reserve equipment, accumulating sufficient reserves of energy resources, and strengthening the protection of facilities - from installing anti-drone nets to more complex engineering structures,” Minister Grynchuk stated on her Facebook page following the meeting.
Energy remains one of the key areas of UNDP’s support to Ukraine, according to Ms. Grynchuk. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received substantial assistance from international partners, including equipment, technical support, and expert assessments, helping the country withstand repeated attacks on its energy infrastructure.
With the backing of UNDP and nine international donors, nearly USD 300 million has been mobilized to reinforce Ukraine’s energy system in response to every wave of Russian strikes.
UNDP’s efforts also extend to regional development. Through its support, more than 475.1 MW of generating capacity has already been installed across Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Lviv regions, significantly enhancing local energy security.
“I would like to thank Mr. Lootsma for his assurances and for UNDP’s continued work with partners to attract additional assistance for Ukraine. I am grateful for your understanding of Ukraine’s problems and needs and your willingness to work towards their rapid resolution. We have many joint plans and decisions and highly value the strategic partnership that allows us to hold the energy front despite all the intentions and actions of the enemy,” Minister emphasized.
