Ukraine is confidently moving towards restoring and strengthening the energy system, receiving significant support from international partners in preparation for the 2024-2025 heating season. A strategically important meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of ambassadors was held, dedicated to the protection of critical energy infrastructure. During the meeting held at the Polish Embassy with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry of Energy and the Armed Forces, urgent issues of countering russian attacks and strengthening air defense of energy facilities were discussed.
Despite systematic enemy attacks on the energy infrastructure, Ukraine is showing good recovery rates.
"The issue of protecting the energy infrastructure remains urgent. The international community continues to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance in financing the installation and commissioning of new equipment, which allows maintaining the stable operation of the energy system even in conditions of constant threats. We strive to provide Ukrainians with light and heat, we understand the needs of business in order to strengthen the economy, we understand that people need work places and everything related to the need to protect our nuclear power plants and substations throughout the country. This ultimately strengthens European security, because damage to our energy facilities can lead to serious consequences on a continental scale." - noted Yurii Sheyko, First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
An important area of work is the development of distributed generation, where smaller capacities are used, which significantly increases the reliability of the power system. Such objects are more resistant to attacks, require lower recovery costs and are better protected against cyber attacks.
At the same time, multi-level protection of critical infrastructure is being implemented. For a stable passage of the heating season, a backup generation network is deployed. Thanks to the support of partners, projects on the leasing of generating equipment are already being implemented, and regional cogeneration projects are being implemented.
