The Naftogaz Group, in cooperation with the Lithuanian state energy holding Ignitis Group, will ensure the supply of 90 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine. The delivery will be carried out via the LNG terminal in Klaipėda during February and March of this year, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal announced.
“Under current conditions, when Russia is attacking our energy and gas infrastructure almost daily, it is critically important to diversify supply routes and strengthen energy security in order to guarantee stable gas supply to consumers under any circumstances,” Denys Shmyhal stated.
As noted by Lithuania’s Minister of Energy, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, the Republic of Lithuania has found ways to use existing infrastructure more efficiently and provide practical support to the people of Ukraine as swiftly as possible:
“The LNG terminal in Klaipėda is one of the most actively used in Europe. Thanks to it, we can contribute to reliable gas supply and strengthen the energy security of our partners in Ukraine,” Žygimantas Vaičiūnas said.
Denys Shmyhal also noted that Ukraine continues to develop regional supply routes, including the Vertical Gas Corridor.
“Together with our partners, we are building a new energy security architecture for Europe — one without a Russian molecule — where Ukraine will serve as one of the region’s energy hubs,” the Minister emphasized.
