First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal took part in a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius. During the meeting, the parties discussed Ukraine’s priorities in strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure.

“The air defence systems provided by Germany are already helping us intercept Russian missiles targeting, among other things, energy facilities. We count on the delivery of additional systems and missiles for them, which is critically important for protecting people and critical infrastructure next winter,” Denys Shmyhal stated.

He emphasized that Germany remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in the energy sector. More than EUR 557 million in contributions have been provided to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, alongside hundreds of humanitarian deliveries and thousands of tonnes of equipment.

Denys Shmyhal and German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius also visited one of the energy facilities in the capital damaged by Russian attacks. They inspected the consequences of the strikes, which left thousands of Kyiv residents without heating, as well as the ongoing recovery efforts and construction of protective structures. These measures include the installation of concrete shelters for equipment and protection against drone attacks.

Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to Germany for the equipment already delivered, which helped Ukraine successfully get through this winter, and voiced hope for continued German support in the future.
