Ukraine and Poland Unite Efforts to Strengthen Energy Security

The development of strategic areas of cooperation in the energy sector was the central focus of discussions between the Ukrainian delegation and Polish government officials.

During a working visit to the Republic of Poland, representatives of Ukraine’s energy sector, including Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak and CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi, held a meeting with Poland’s Minister of State Assets Wojciech Balczun to discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Amid the unprecedented challenges facing Ukraine's energy system as a result of Russian aggression, cooperation with international partners, particularly Poland, has become especially significant. Poland is one of Ukraine’s key allies in strengthening energy security and advancing integration into the European energy market.

Despite difficult conditions, Ukraine’s energy system remains balanced. However, wartime risks of an energy crisis require additional security measures and coordination. The Ukrainian delegation expressed gratitude to their Polish counterparts for their steadfast solidarity and support, which includes the supply of critical equipment, assistance with logistics, and the storage of strategic energy resources.

Joint efforts by the governments and companies of both countries to develop energy and gas transmission systems deserve special attention. These steps are vital in the context of the cessation of Russian gas supplies and continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

“Our cooperation with Poland has already proven effective in strengthening the energy resilience of both countries. We have every reason to reinforce this partnership through coordinated action and the implementation of mutually beneficial projects,” said Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak.

“We have a successful track record of partnership with the Polish company ORLEN, including in the delivery of U.S. liquefied natural gas to Ukraine. We are open to deepening cooperation and the implementation of joint projects that strengthen the energy security of Ukraine and the entire Eastern European region,” noted Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

As part of the preparations for the 2025-2026 heating season, the Ukrainian side presented its action plan. The delegations also discussed opportunities for coordination with the Polish side in mobilizing additional strategic resources.

The parties paid special attention to cooperation projects between NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and ORLEN S.A.
