Deputy Ministers of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk and Olga Yukhymchuk held a meeting with directors of the Eastern European departments of the foreign ministries of the Nordic-Baltic Eight countries-Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
The discussion focused on the current state of Ukraine’s energy system, the impact of large-scale Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, urgent recovery needs, and potential areas for strengthening international support. Particular attention was given to the restoration of damaged equipment, enhancement of physical protection for energy facilities, and the implementation of distributed generation projects.
“We clearly see that the enemy’s tactics have evolved and the weapons employed have become more advanced. This creates additional challenges; however, we continue to identify effective solutions to protect and rapidly restore the system. Close cooperation with our partners enables us to maintain the stability of energy supplies and respond promptly to attacks,” stated Mykola Kolisnyk.
The parties also discussed prospects for further cooperation in the areas of nuclear safety, the establishment of reserves of critical equipment, grid modernization, the development of geothermal and hydrogen energy, and the expansion of assistance programs through the Energy Support Fund.
Priority areas for future engagement were outlined, including the deployment of small modular nuclear generation, continued support for network infrastructure, and closer synchronization with European partners.
Representatives of the Nordic-Baltic Eight reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting Ukraine through the provision of equipment, expanded humanitarian assistance, and participation in joint technical and training programs for Ukrainian specialists.
“We are grateful to our partners for their consistent support. Joint efforts and assistance are critically important for ensuring the stability of energy supplies and the restoration of damaged facilities,” added Olga Yukhymchuk.
