Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, to discuss the state of ongoing projects and the launch of new initiatives to ensure energy resilience amid wartime challenges.
The Minister briefed the Ambassador on Ukraine's energy security situation and outlined the key priorities of the Ministry’s work, including the restoration of damaged generation and distribution facilities, and the procurement of critical resources and equipment ahead of the heating season.
Svitlana Grynchuk expressed her gratitude to Ambassador for Italy’s steadfast support, emphasizing:
“Italy provides Ukraine with strategically important assistance in the energy sector. Italy’s contribution of €13 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has been allocated for the procurement of a gas turbine unit, which will be installed as part of a project to expand distributed generation capacity in Odesa region. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received 69 humanitarian aid shipments containing equipment with a total weight of approximately 850 tons. This assistance was distributed among energy companies, enabling specialists to restore facilities following Russian attacks and to maintain a stable power supply under extremely challenging conditions.”
The parties also focused on the joint “Ray of Hope” initiative, implemented by the European Union and Ukraine with the support of the Italian company Enel S.p.A. Within this initiative, solar panels are being installed in Ukrainian healthcare facilities to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during wartime. According to the Minister, this solution is highly timely for both immediate humanitarian needs and Ukraine’s long-term objectives.
Svitlana Grynchuk also acknowledged Italy’s support in organizing this year’s Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, which became a landmark event for advancing cooperation and implementing projects for Ukraine’s green recovery.
“We have made a significant step forward with the signing of agreements worth over €1.2 billion, particularly in the nuclear energy, hydropower, oil and gas exploration and production, as well as renewable energy development,” the Minister stated.
Following the meeting, the parties outlined potential projects for further mutual cooperation.
