Ukraine and Germany have signed a series of energy agreements with a total portfolio value exceeding EUR 155 million.
The agreements provide for cooperation on restoring and modernising the power system, accelerating the delivery of essential electrical equipment, developing power generation and modernising underground gas storage facilities. The agreements were signed following the Ukrainian-German Business Forum, attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz.
“We thank German businesses for their active engagement and willingness to deepen our partnership to modernise Ukraine’s energy sector and strengthen our shared energy security,” said First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and Siemens Energy will cooperate on restoring, modernising and enhancing the resilience of Ukraine’s power system. In particular, they are exploring the possibility of deploying 12 Siemens Energy gas turbine units to support distributed generation.
NPC Ukrenergo and two German transmission system operators, 50Hertz and Amprion, have agreed to cooperate to accelerate the delivery of critical electrical equipment. The companies will jointly identify available manufacturing capacity and coordinate efforts to secure the earliest available production slots with international manufacturers of transformers, cables, switchgear and other essential equipment.
Naftogaz and Siemens Energy will cooperate in three areas: energy security and infrastructure protection, modernisation of underground gas storage facilities, and technical cooperation on electricity generation. The companies are developing a project to supply five gas turbine compressor units and exploring the possibility of deploying power generation based on Siemens Energy solutions and automated control systems.
