Deepening the partnership between Ukraine and Azerbaijan in the field of “green” energy is an important area of intergovernmental cooperation.

This was emphasized by Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk during the roundtable “Azerbaijan – Ukraine: New Partnership Opportunities in the Field of Pumped Storage and Renewable Energy,” organized by the Azerbaijan-Ukraine Energy Association. The event was also attended by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yuriy Husiev.

The roundtable provided a platform for business representatives, academics, and government officials to discuss experience and technical expertise in implementing renewable energy projects, including hydropower generation.

In his speech, Mykola Kolisnyk noted that in recent years Ukraine and Azerbaijan have intensified intergovernmental dialogue at the highest level, in particular within the framework of the Ukraine-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission, chaired by the Ministers of Energy of both countries.

“Following numerous high-level meetings, we have successful examples of cooperation between our countries in the energy sector, particularly in the gas industry. There is also promising potential to deepen the partnership for the development of climate-neutral energy sources. Implementing renewable energy projects is one of the key points of intergovernmental cooperation,” he said.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that flexible generation, in particular hydropower, plays a critical role in balancing the operation of the energy system and maintaining its integrity. He noted that Ukraine has significant expertise in this area and is ready to share it with Azerbaijani partners.

Deputy Minister Kolisnyk also expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the humanitarian aid provided to Ukraine in the form of energy equipment, which supports the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

During the roundtable, Azerbaijani representatives also expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Ukraine in the field of renewable energy. According to officials from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine, such collaboration will not only help achieve the goals of increasing “green” energy capacity but also strengthen energy security in the Black Sea–Caspian region as a whole.
