As part of an official visit to Baku, Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko and Deputy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, during which they discussed key areas of cooperation in the energy sector.
"The Ukraine–Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission is an important tool for strengthening practical cooperation in energy. Azerbaijan is one of the key suppliers of energy resources to Europe, and we see significant potential to expand our partnership in the areas of gas extraction, storage, and transportation. The implementation of joint projects will enhance energy security and contribute to the economic development of both countries," emphasized Minister of Energy German Galushchenko.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its consistent support of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war, particularly for providing humanitarian aid and assistance in restoring energy infrastructure.
"We highly value the solidarity of the Azerbaijani people with Ukraine. The support in the energy sector has been especially important, helping to maintain the stability of our energy system under challenging conditions," noted Mykola Kolisnyk.
During the meeting, the parties discussed next steps for cooperation, including joint energy projects, the development of renewable energy, and the involvement of Ukrainian companies in modernizing Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure.
"Ukraine is interested in strengthening its partnership with Azerbaijani companies in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and innovation. We are open to new investments and projects," added the Deputy Minister.
Mykola Kolisnyk emphasized the readiness of Ukrainian state-owned and private companies to join joint energy projects, including with SOCAR and other Azerbaijani partners.
The parties also discussed the possibility of using Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities for storing Azerbaijani gas as part of the European "gas storage safety" initiative. Special attention was given to enhancing the transit potential of both countries through the improvement of transport corridors, particularly the Middle Corridor.
Ukraine and Azerbaijan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership in the energy sector, which opens up new prospects for cooperation and increasing the energy security of both states.
