First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Federal Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism of Austria, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Austria in the field of renewable hydrogen.

According to Denys Shmyhal, the document provides for the development of hydrogen production, the creation of infrastructure for hydrogen storage and transportation, as well as the attraction of investments in this sector.

Denys Shmyhal and Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer also discussed other bilateral arrangements. As the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine emphasized, Austria is home to key manufacturers of energy equipment that could be used in the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector.

“Partners are ready to provide us with equipment from their own thermal power plants to help prepare for the next heating season. We are currently working on this opportunity. We also appreciate the contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which amounts to EUR 15.5 million,” the First Deputy Prime Minister noted.

According to him, close cooperation between Ukrainian and Austrian businesses has been established across various segments of the energy sector. Austrian companies are already storing gas in Ukrainian underground storage facilities. Among the priorities are expanding cooperation in Ukraine’s underground gas storage and implementing joint gas production projects.

“We are grateful to Austria for providing equipment and supporting the restoration of production capacities. Austria remains a reliable partner in strengthening energy resilience. We highly value the timely support and readiness to further develop our partnership,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
