Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk participated in the Ukrainian Women’s Congress, which this year is being held under the slogan “The courage to be yourself.”

In her speech, the Minister shared the story of Svitlana Pikalo, a 46-year-old dispatcher from the emergency gas service in Chuhuiv, who died at her workplace on the first day of the full-scale invasion.

“Svitlana Pikalo was among the first victims of Russia’s deliberate attacks on our energy infrastructure. She posed no threat to the occupiers. She was simply doing her job - she had the courage to be herself, remaining a dedicated professional until her last breath. There are thousands of such women across Ukraine. Every day, our women make this choice - a choice that shapes not only their lives but also the future of our entire country,” the Minister said.

Ms. Grynchuk emphasized the crucial contribution of women who stand strong on the energy frontline alongside men.

“Today, I am proud that 60% of the Ministry of Energy’s staff are women. And this trend is reflected across the entire sector. What matters most is professionalism and responsibility - and our women prove every day that they stand shoulder to shoulder with men in defending our energy front,” she added.

During the discussion, Ms. Grynchuk was asked what it means to be the first female Minister of Energy of Ukraine during such challenging times. She responded that the real hardships are faced by those working directly on the front lines - both the military and energy workers, women and men alike. She noted that energy workers tirelessly restore damaged power lines, often risking their lives, and always carry out their duties with a high level of professionalism and responsibility.

Svitlana Grynchuk expressed gratitude to all those who are upholding Ukraine’s energy shield today, and thanked the organizers of the Congress for creating a meaningful platform for public dialogue.
