Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Svitlana Grynchuk, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, and JICA Senior Vice President, Kenichi Kawamura.
The parties discussed preparations for the upcoming heating season and the key priorities for continued cooperation.

The Minister expressed her sincere gratitude to the people and Government of Japan for their strong partnership and sustained support for Ukraine’s energy sector during russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.

“We are deeply grateful for the equipment provided by our Japanese partners through JICA and UNDP, including gas turbines, electric generators, infrastructure protection equipment, and more. Your assistance is one of the key pillars of Ukraine’s energy resilience and recovery,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.

The Minister of Energy noted that the current priorities in preparing for the heating season include strengthening and protecting regional energy infrastructure, as well as establishing a strategic reserve of equipment necessary to accelerate repair campaigns.

The meeting also addressed the current operational situation in the energy sector.

“Despite the so-called energy ceasefire, russia continues to carry out targeted attacks on energy facilities — particularly on gas production. Given this, our priorities remain the protection of critical energy infrastructure to ensure stable electricity and gas supply throughout the heating season,” emphasized the Minister.

Svitlana Grynchuk also highlighted that the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has been transferred under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

“The Chornobyl NPP is a facility of critical importance for ensuring nuclear safety across the region. The Ministry of Energy will continue to coordinate the repairs of the New Safe Confinement. In this context, we count on the support of our international partners,” Grynchuk noted.

The Japanese representatives assured that Japan will continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and seeks to expand cooperation with Ukrainian state-owned companies and the private sector to strengthen the country’s energy sector.
