Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc, where the parties discussed ways to expand cooperation in the energy sector.
This meeting continued the dialogue launched between the leadership of the two states — President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney during the Canadian Government leader’s visit to Ukraine in August this year.
“Our countries already have a substantial portfolio of joint energy projects, as well as good cooperation in matters of protecting our critical infrastructure,” Svitlana Grynchuk emphasized.
On the agenda of both countries are nuclear fuel production, the introduction of advanced technologies such as small modular reactors, the development of hydropower, cooperation in the field of low-carbon technologies and the oil and gas sector, diversification of gas supply routes, and the launch of joint educational programs for training the next generation of specialists.
They separately discussed strengthening contacts between Canadian and Ukrainian energy companies for the joint implementation of projects. As the Ambassador noted, businesses in Canada are already considering niches for cooperation with and in Ukraine. The parties agreed to intensify work in this area.
The Minister thanked Canada for its assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector, in particular through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which already exceeds €69 million, as well as through other international mechanisms.
“We highly value this assistance and are determined to continue our partnership that will deliver results,” Svitlana Grynchuk summarized.
