Svitlana Grynchuk: The presence of IAEA experts at Ukrainian energy facilities is critically important today

Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi on the sidelines of the G7 Energy Ministers’ Summit in Toronto.

She emphasized that Ukraine highly values the Agency’s efforts. The presence of IAEA experts at facilities that play a key role in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety is extremely important now, as Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The Minister thanked Rafael Grossi for the Agency’s swift response and readiness to deploy expert missions to facilities recently targeted by Russia, where the risks to nuclear safety remain significant.

The parties also discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Svitlana Grynchuk noted that the repair of power lines restored electricity supply to the plant, ending its tenth and longest blackout. She stressed that the only way to guarantee the plant’s safety is its return under the full control of Ukraine’s Energoatom.

“I thank IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi for his constructive cooperation, consistent support, and commitment to strengthening nuclear safety in Ukraine,” the Minister added.
