Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Svitlana Grynchuk, discussed the country’s energy system needs ahead of the winter season with Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, at the Agency’s headquarters in Paris. The Minister shared details on her Facebook page.

Svitlana Grynchuk briefed her colleagues on measures to protect Ukraine’s energy facilities from Russian missiles and drones, ongoing repair campaigns, and the creation of equipment and resource reserves. The IEA expressed readiness to facilitate Ukraine’s contacts with international partners to ensure that the Ukrainian energy sector has everything necessary for rapid recovery.

The discussion also covered the current situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the need to strengthen partner efforts for its de-occupation and demilitarization. The Minister emphasized the critical importance of granting Ukrainian energy specialists access to repair the power lines supplying ZNPP.

Matters related to the accumulation and storage of oil and gas reserves, as well as the diversification of supply routes, were also addressed to strengthen energy independence both for Ukraine and the entire European region.

“I am grateful to Mr. Fatih Birol for this meeting at the IEA headquarters. We highly value the Agency’s support and are pleased to be its associated member. The IEA has already provided us with substantial analytical and technical assistance, valuable recommendations, and roadmaps for the development of renewable energy, the advancement of the green transition, and the implementation of sustainable technologies. The IEA remains a reliable partner, ensuring Ukraine access to global expertise and best practices,” stated Svitlana Grynchuk.
