Ukraine continues to expand the geography of its gas supply routes, said Ukrainian Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk during the Ministerial Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC), held in Athens and focused on gas route diversification and energy security.

According to the Minister, gas transmission system operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, as well as the operator of the Greek-Bulgarian interconnector, have submitted a joint letter to their national energy regulators requesting approval to expand gas supply routes along the south–north direction.

Svitlana Grynchuk emphasized that the development of the Vertical Corridor is among the key priorities, as it will help Europe diversify supply routes, eliminate dependence on Russian energy resources, and strengthen regional energy resilience.

“The availability of several competitive routes will help mitigate potential supply risks and ensure uninterrupted gas flows to Ukraine under various scenarios. This approach reinforces regional security of supply and solidarity while allowing for the efficient use of existing infrastructure,” the Minister noted.

The event was also attended by U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, senior officials of the U.S. administration, and the Ministers of Energy of Greece, Stavros Papastavrou; Bulgaria, Zhecho Stankov; Romania, Ivan Bogdan-Gruia; and Moldova, Dorin Jungiatu.
