Within the framework of the 69th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

Key topics of discussion included the Agency’s support for Ukraine’s nuclear sector and energy resilience, the current situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and the restoration of the sarcophagus over the Chernobyl NPP.

Director General Grossi emphasized that nuclear safety and the protection of the Zaporizhzhia NPP remain a top priority for the Agency. Opening the Conference, he noted that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the IAEA has deployed over 200 missions to Ukrainian nuclear power plants involving nearly 200 staff members.

“We highly value the contribution of IAEA missions in ensuring nuclear safety in Europe and rely on the continuous presence of experts at Ukrainian NPPs,” highlighted Svitlana Grynchuk.

The discussion also touched on plans for the development of nuclear generation and the implementation of modern technologies. Despite the challenges, Ukraine continues to advance in this area, relying on the expertise and partnership of the Agency in these strategic efforts. Joint work under the Memorandum of Cooperation with the IAEA, signed during the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) in Rome, is of particular importance.

“I thank the IAEA and Rafael Mariano Grossi for their support. We face many challenges and complex tasks, but I am confident that only by combining our efforts can we ensure nuclear safety in Ukraine, Europe, and the world,” concluded the Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
