On the sidelines of the 69th IAEA General Conference, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk met with the heads of delegations from Poland, the United Kingdom, France, Estonia, the Netherlands, as well as representatives of the European Commission.
In particular, during talks with Poland’s Deputy Minister of Energy – Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure Wojciech Wrochny, the Minister discussed the development of nuclear energy and limiting Russian energy supplies to the EU.
Issues related to the completion of Ukraine’s legislative adaptation to the EU acquis, integration of the Ukrainian energy market with the European market, and support for Ukraine’s energy system were addressed during a meeting with representatives of the European Commission, including Massimo Garribba, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Energy, D. Corbet, Director of the Joint Implementation Support Office, and others.
Minister Grynchuk also discussed ongoing projects and new areas of cooperation with UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Kathy White.
The Minister of Energy also met with Anne-Isabelle Etiennevr, Head of the French Commissariat for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energy Sources. The French side reaffirmed its unconditional support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and highlighted France’s financial assistance of €10 million for eliminating the consequences of the attack on the Chernobyl NPP Ark object. During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that Ukraine needs additional air defense systems to protect the population and critical energy infrastructure.
During discussions with Estonia’s Minister of Energy and Environment Andres Sutt, the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and regional energy security issues were addressed. Svitlana Grynchuk thanked Estonia for humanitarian shipments of energy equipment and its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
At the meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the IAEA, the Minister expressed gratitude for their support. Ukraine will conclude its two-year membership, and the Netherlands will assume it. In this context, the diplomatic missions of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
