Russians Damage the External Crisis Center of the Zaporizhzhia NPP

11 August 2025, 17:22

On August 10, as a result of a Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia, the External Crisis Center of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was hit. Fortunately, none of the employees were injured, but the office building sustained partial destruction.

The External Crisis Center is an integral part of the plant’s safety system. Under conditions where the occupying administration of the Zaporizhzhia NPP blocks the automatic transmission of data on the nuclear and radiation status through the IAEA’s IRMIS system, the specialists of this center carry out continuous monitoring of the radiation situation within the observation zone on the territory controlled by Ukraine.

We emphasize that the only way to restore nuclear safety and stability in the region is the complete demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and its return under the full control of its lawful operator – JSC “NNEGC “Energoatom”

“An attack on infrastructure that monitors the radiation situation is yet another proof of the aggressor’s irresponsible policy, which disregards all norms of international law. The Russians are once again proving that their actions pose a real threat to nuclear safety not only for Ukraine but for the entire European continent,” stressed Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine calls on international organizations and foreign partners to intensify sanctions pressure on the aggressor and take urgent measures to stop the shelling of Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure facilities.
