Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak held an online meeting with the Minister of Climate and Energy of the Republic of Estonia, Andres Sutt.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy sector and the urgent needs to ensure energy sustainability amid ongoing targeted attacks by the Russian Federation.
Roman Andarak informed his Estonian counterpart that this year the aggressor has significantly intensified strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including civilian energy and municipal facilities. He noted that recent attacks, particularly in Kyiv, have deliberately targeted infrastructure providing heat and water supply to households, with the aim of inflicting maximum harm on the civilian population.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that Estonia’s support is of substantial importance for Ukrainian energy companies, as the equipment provided enables the faster restoration of facilities damaged by hostile attacks. He also expressed gratitude to the Estonian side for its financial assistance, in particular the recent grant contribution of EUR 2 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
“International support, particularly from Estonia, is essential for maintaining the stability of Ukraine’s energy system and ensuring uninterrupted energy supply to the population and critical infrastructure. Ukraine highly values this assistance and our strong partnership,” Roman Andarak stated.
Andres Sutt, in turn, expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and reaffirmed Estonia’s commitment to continued support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, including in the energy sector.
The parties also discussed coordination of cooperation within international institutions, with particular attention to issues related to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. They underscored the illegality of the Russian Federation’s actions aimed at legitimizing the occupation of the plant through the issuance of a so-called “license” to operate one of its power units. It was emphasized that the Zaporizhzhia NPP falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of Ukraine, and that the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine remains the sole competent nuclear regulatory authority on its territory.
