Support for Ukraine’s European integration aspirations and assistance in preparing for the 2025–2026 heating season were the key topics of a series of bilateral meetings that Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak held with senior officials of EU member states and the European Commission during his working visit to Copenhagen, Denmark.
At a meeting with the Minister for Climate and Energy of the Kingdom of Denmark, Lars Aagaard, the parties discussed ways to accelerate the EU’s consideration of Ukraine’s European integration package. They also emphasized the need to coordinate efforts to support Ukraine’s winter preparedness and maintain EU solidarity with Ukraine on other issues related to countering Russian aggression.
During a meeting with the Minister of Energy of Lithuania, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, they discussed opportunities for Lithuanian partners to support Ukraine’s energy sector, including the provision of additional equipment for reserves and further repairs of facilities damaged by Russian attacks. They also addressed the exchange of experience in cybersecurity and strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure.
In talks with Ditte Juul-Jørgensen, Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, Roman Andarak addressed cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the context of adopting European integration legislation, including providing comments from the European Commission on the draft law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on energy market integration. Other energy security issues were also discussed, including routes for importing gas into Ukraine.
During discussions with the State Secretary of Norway, Astrid Bergmol, the Deputy Minister outlined the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities, particularly in electricity and gas infrastructure. They discussed ways in which Norway could support the stable passage of the heating season. Roman Andarak briefed the State Secretary on current needs and expressed gratitude for the assistance already provided, including funds for imported gas procurement.
At a meeting with the State Secretary of Sweden, Maja Lundbeck, the discussion focused on supporting the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system amid hostile attacks and coordinating efforts on Ukraine’s European integration track.
With the leadership of the European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), the parties discussed further cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC), the integration of electricity markets, support for implementing secondary legislation for European integration, and optimizing gas transportation tariffs in the region.
