Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak, on the sidelines of the “Roadmaps to New Nuclear Energy 2025” Conference in Paris, held a meeting with the informal group of representatives of OECD - OCDE member states “OECD Friends of Ukraine.”
He informed participants about the current situation in Ukraine’s energy sector and spoke about initiatives to restore the country’s energy system.
“For more than three years, Russia has been systematically targeting the energy sector, attempting to deprive Ukrainians of light and heat. They attack thermal and hydropower generation, electricity transmission systems, and oil and gas infrastructure. Since March this year, more than 3,000 strikes on energy facilities have been recorded. The Ukrainian Government and energy workers are making tremendous efforts to strengthen the resilience and modernization of the energy system,” said Roman Andarak.
Roman Andarak thanked international partners for their consistent support of Ukraine’s energy sector, including humanitarian aid with equipment and critical materials, in particular through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund mechanism.
The Deputy Minister informed partners about the state of preparation for the 2025–2026 heating season and drew attention to the urgent needs of Ukraine’s energy sector. He noted that the Ministry of Energy is currently focusing its main efforts on developing distributed generation, strengthening the protection of energy facilities, and creating a reserve of critically important equipment for repairing damaged capacities.
Roman Andarak also stressed the importance of attracting additional funds to finance natural gas procurement.
The Deputy Minister informed participants about the progress achieved by the Government of Ukraine in advancing European integration, developing the private sector, and implementing strategic reforms and innovations to achieve long-term energy independence and sustainability.
