First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, held an online meeting with Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, to discuss key priorities for Ukraine’s preparation for the upcoming heating season.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized the need to maximize resource mobilization and accelerate procurement through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund:
“Our goal is to ensure that all critically needed equipment is delivered to Ukraine and ready for operation by the end of October this year. We are jointly working on additional mechanisms for direct or expedited procurement within the Fund, while continuing engagement with donors,” he stated following the meeting.
According to the Minister, the Fund is currently ready to reallocate more than €195 million in donor contributions to priority needs. Teams from the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Community are already compiling a list of urgent requirements. In addition, energy equipment worth over €200 million is already en route and expected to arrive in Ukraine before the start of the heating season.
During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail all immediate priorities, including repairs, protection, strategic reserves, and distributed generation. With the support of the Energy Support Fund, 15 projects have already been financed for a total of €225.1 million, resulting in 223.9 MW of capacity commissioned, with a further 303.7 MW at various stages of implementation.
Denys Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and the Energy Community for their key role in strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience.
