Nuclear Safety in Ukraine is an Integral Part of Global Nuclear Security: German Galushchenko at a Meeting with the Indian representative at the IAEA

Ukrainian Minister of Energy German Galushchenko discussed with India’s Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Shambhu Kumaran the issue of ensuring nuclear and radiation safety in Ukraine in the face of russian military aggression.

The meeting took place in Vienna, where the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Governors is currently meeting.

German Galushchenko particularly focused on the threats to nuclear and radiation safety posed by russian attacks on substations that are critical to the operation of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, as attacks on substations have the same impact as an emergency shutdown of a nuclear power plant.

The parties discussed the need to ensure the safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, as well as taking all measures to avoid a potential nuclear incident.

The Indian representative assured that his country shares concerns about existing threats and supports IAEA missions in Ukraine aimed at monitoring the situation with nuclear and radiation safety.
