The Ministry of Energy Expresses Deep Condolences on the Tragic Death of Oleksii Brekht

21 January 2026, 15:30

Ukraine’s energy sector has suffered an irreplaceable loss. Oleksii Brekht, a member of the Board of NEC “Ukrenergo” — a person who dedicated over a quarter of a century to serving the light — has passed away. He followed a dignified and honest path from engineer to head of the system operator. A graduate of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, he began his career in 1999 at the Kyiv Pumped Storage Power Plant.

During the most difficult times for our country, when the enemy sought to plunge us into darkness, Oleksii Brekht assumed enormous responsibility. Leading NEC “Ukrenergo” as Acting Chairman of the Board during the challenging period of 2024–2025, and later overseeing network operation and restoration, he did everything possible to maintain the system. His contribution to the resilience of Ukraine’s united energy system is invaluable.

We will remember Oleksii Oleksandrovych Brekht as a wise leader, a talented energy professional, and a person of steel will who remained devoted to his work until his last breath.

The Ministry of Energy extends sincere condolences to his family, relatives, friends, and the entire team of NEC “Ukrenergo.”

This is our shared grief.

May his memory be bright.
