First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, together with Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, held a meeting on the deployment of autonomous power supply systems in schools and higher education institutions. Representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine also took part in the meeting.
“This is not only about the ability to generate electricity, but also the capacity to store it. We are building a new architecture of Ukraine’s energy system, based on self-sufficient ‘energy cells’ capable of operating autonomously even during blackouts,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
The First Deputy Prime Minister also noted the demand from universities for the procurement and installation of equipment, including cogeneration units, solar panels, and energy storage systems.
“All higher education institutions must develop projects to ensure electricity supply and uninterrupted heating. For its part, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Education and Science will support the attraction of partner donor funding for the implementation of such initiatives,” he stressed.
Denys Shmyhal added that the Ministry of Energy has designated responsible officials for further coordination with the Ministry of Education and Science and partners. Working groups have been tasked with developing key parameters that will form the basis for projects aimed at enhancing the energy resilience of educational institutions.
