Additional energy assistance from the Lithuanian Government was announced in January during a phone call between Minister of Energy of Lithuania Žygimantas Vaičiūnas and First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
22 generators, totaling 13 MW, were delivered to Kyiv hospitals and heat/water supply facilities. This is part of assistance provided by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, facilitated by the Embassy of Ukraine in Lithuania. The remaining 26 generators from Ministry of Energy hubs were distributed to the facilities in greatest need.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Lithuania for their rapid response and steadfast support.
“Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Lithuania has sent 348 humanitarian shipments to Ukraine via the Emergency Energy Assistance Hub – over 5,900 tons of energy equipment, including power and distribution transformers, cable products, diesel generators, special machinery, and vehicles,” said First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
He also noted that Lithuania has strengthened energy independence of Ukrainian hospitals, providing over 2,000 solar panels under the “Ray of Hope” program. Six healthcare facilities have started autonomous electricity generation this year, with another under technical design.
“Major projects with Lithuania include relocating decommissioned equipment from Vilnius CHP-3 for restoration works across Ukraine. Equipment from the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant has also been distributed among key nuclear and thermal power plants nationwide,” The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal added.
Lithuania’s contribution to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine amounts to €5.7 million, funding essential equipment for heat supply in Bila Tserkva, with a second grant allocated for Kharkiv’s heat supply restoration.
The generators for Kyiv’s critical infrastructure were handed over by Deputy Minister Anatoliy Kutsevol and Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine Inga Stanaitė-Tolochkienė.
