First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed the urgent needs of Ukraine’s energy system with Latvia’s Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melnis.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Latvia for its consistent support, noting that Latvia has already delivered more than 611 tonnes of humanitarian energy equipment to Ukraine. He expressed particular gratitude to Minister Melnis for his personal involvement in coordinating and facilitating the delivery of part of this assistance. Latvia has also contributed EUR 617,000 to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, Ukraine expects the next shipment in the near future, including transformers, insulators, transformer oil, and other critical equipment.
Special attention during the talks was given to additional support for the Kharkiv region. Latvia confirmed its readiness to transfer reserve equipment from its own thermal power plants to help restore heat supply in the region. The parties agreed to establish a joint working group to ensure swift coordination of this assistance.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that such practical cooperation is vital for maintaining heat supply to communities and expressed appreciation for Latvia’s systematic and reliable support of Ukraine’s energy sector.
