As part of the Emergency Recovery Program funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ukraine received 13 generators for the capital’s communal enterprise Kyivteploenergo. A total of 137 generators were purchased under this phase of the program, with deliveries ongoing to other regions of Ukraine.
The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal emphasized Japan’s systematic support for Ukraine’s energy sector:
“Assistance from the Government of Japan is not just a symbol of solidarity – it is a tangible contribution that helps our cities, communities, and people withstand extreme challenges amid Russian attacks. We thank JICA for the new batch of generators, which will enable Kyiv’s utilities to provide heat to households and social infrastructure facilities,” he said.
The 13 generators will provide heating for approximately 300 residential buildings in Kyiv, as well as key social infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and kindergartens, installed directly at heating facilities in various districts of the capital.
The handover ceremony in Kyiv was attended by Deputy Minister of Energy for European Integration Anatoliy Kutsevol, Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome, and Chief Representative of JICA Ukraine, Osamu Hattori.
