Japan will continue to assist Ukraine in strengthening its energy security amid ongoing Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk announced this following a meeting with Masashi Nakagome, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, and representatives of the JICA Ukraine Office.

According to the minister, the parties discussed the consequences of the latest missile strikes and the ongoing efforts to restore damaged energy facilities. She emphasized that Ukraine’s immediate priorities include rapidly replenishing equipment reserves and enhancing the protection of energy infrastructure.

The sides agreed to accelerate the delivery of aid already planned by Japan for Ukraine’s energy sector and explored opportunities for Japanese companies to participate in future cooperation initiatives.

Ambassador Nakagome expressed Japan’s unwavering support and praised the dedication of Ukrainian energy workers who continue their mission despite constant danger and shelling.

"I am grateful to Japan for its strong partnership during the most difficult times for our country. Japan's solidarity and, in particular, the prompt assistance provided by JICA and UNDP play an important role for us in strengthening our energy infrastructure, developing decentralized generation, and ensuring the stable operation of the power system. I am grateful for the special equipment provided to emergency crews and the equipment for restoring damaged transmission lines and distribution networks, as well as for the assistance in the emergency restoration of infrastructure in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and other cities," the Minister wrote.

Svitlana Grynchuk emphasized that thanks to Japan's support and the assistance provided through JICA and UNDP Ukraine, we have an additional opportunity to ensure the supply of electricity to Ukrainian homes and quickly restore damaged facilities. This cooperation remains a vital contribution by Japan to Ukraine's energy security and the protection of civilian infrastructure from constant attacks by Russia.
