Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Ukraine Carlo Formosa and Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Artur Lorkowski signed an agreement on a new partner contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the additional €10 million from Italy will be allocated to recovery and repair works in Ukraine’s energy sector. Previously, Italy had already contributed €13 million to the Energy Support Fund.

During a meeting with Artur Lorkowski, Denys Shmyhal thanked the partners for supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and stressed that this represents a significant contribution to the resilience of Ukraine’s power system and the security of millions of Ukrainians.

“As a continuation of our dialogue in Berlin earlier this week, we discussed strengthening Ukraine’s energy sector and further integration into the EU energy market. Particular attention was paid to mechanisms for attracting additional contributions to the Energy Support Fund as an instrument for enhancing our country’s energy resilience,” the Minister of Energy stated.

The meeting also focused on opportunities for international businesses to invest in Ukraine’s energy sector.

“The launch of updated auctions for the construction of new generation capacity in Ukraine sends an important signal to the market and creates broader opportunities to attract international investors for the development of new capacities. We are preparing to present these and other opportunities at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk this June. We also agreed to jointly develop mechanisms for mitigating and insuring war-related risks for such investments,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

He also expressed gratitude to the Energy Community Secretariat for the effective coordination of the Fund’s activities and its consistent cooperation with Ukraine.
