Representatives of the EBRD, headed by the EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova, Arvid Tuerkner, together with representatives of the Ministry of Energy and the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, visited the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.

The participants inspected key facilities located in the Exclusion Zone and discussed further steps to ensure their nuclear and radiation safety.

In particular, the delegation inspected the control rooms of Units 3 and 4, the area under the New Safe Confinement, the Central Control Room of the complex where specialists carry out constant monitoring of the condition of the Arch and the Shelter Object.

During the working meeting in the Exclusion Zone, the participants discussed further cooperation to improve nuclear and radiation safety, in particular the restoration of the New Safe Confinement Arch after the attack of a russian drone, as well as prospects for modernization of the facilities of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.

Within the framework of the visit, Grant Agreement No. 4 was signed between Ukraine and the EBRD for the implementation of projects of the Chernobyl International Cooperation Account.

The guests also honored the memory of Valerii Khodemchuk – a worker who died during the Chornobyl accident and in whose honor a memorial plate has been installed between Units 3 and 4.

The EBRD has been a reliable partner of Ukraine for many years in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety. Therefore, the visit of international partners once again confirmed the strategic importance of cooperation for the safe management of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and the implementation of projects aimed at the long-term environmental and nuclear safety of Ukraine and the entire Europe.
