On December 17 the experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) extended their monitoring mission at substations of the transmission system operator that are critically important for Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
The agreement on the necessity for the next IAEA mission to substations crucial for nuclear energy was reached between the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi during an extraordinary session of the Agency's Board of Governors, which was convened at Ukraine's initiative. During that meeting, Ukraine's resolution on the inadmissibility of russian attacks on infrastructure critical for nuclear power plant operations was adopted.
"Just last week, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted Ukraine’s resolution on the inadmissibility of russian attacks on infrastructure critical for nuclear power plant operations during an extraordinary session initiated by Ukraine. Yet the enemy continues its aggression, relentlessly attacking, among other targets, substations critical for nuclear generation. I thank Rafael Grossi and the Agency’s experts for their effective cooperation and the decision to extend the mission. Together, we must prevent the worst-case scenarios for nuclear and radiation safety, which russia’s actions are putting us at risk of,” stated the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko.
The parties agreed on the schedule of visits. The mission will be conducted sequentially at designated facilities, as it happened before.
