The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has completed its eighth monitoring mission to key NPC Ukrenergo substations that supply electricity for the internal needs of Ukraine's nuclear power plants and transmit the electricity they generate to the Integrated Power System of Ukraine.

During the mission, the IAEA team visited 13 electrical substations to assess the consequences of Russian attacks. Particular attention was paid to substations that are essential for the safe operation of Ukraine's nuclear power plants. Systematic Russian strikes on energy infrastructure continue to create unprecedented risks to nuclear and radiation safety not only in Ukraine but across the wider European region.

Ongoing international monitoring of these facilities helps document the consequences of Russian attacks, assess their impact on the safe operation of the power system, and keep the international community informed about the real scale of the threats posed by Russia's energy terror.

The ability to conduct comprehensive monitoring of Ukrenergo's key substations became possible following the expansion of the IAEA mission's mandate in September 2024, agreed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
